Steven Walker is a local lad who has returned to Kidderminster after completing 22 years service in the Army. Since leaving the Army he has worked for The Royal Worcestershire NHS Trust and West Midlands Ambulance Service. He recently joined the Labour Party after many years of working as an independent community activist on behalf of local residents in Kidderminster.
He is delighted to be spokesperson for Labour for Greenhill and will work hard to make sure that the voices of local residents and businesses are heard in their concerns, but also that their ideas in developing community-based projects for Greenhill can be supported.
‘A large amount of my work relates to addressing issues raised by tenants in community housing. Other concerns include the state of the roads and I have experience of submitting reports to County and District Councillors that tackle these problems. I have regularly attended local Partners and Community Together meetings for various areas in Kidderminster where issues such as anti-social behaviour can be addressed. I have also helped with after school activities for young children which focused on ways to tackle anti-social behaviour in the community. I have regularly lobbied for Street Scene to clean certain problem streets in the past.
In my work as Labour spokesperson I intend to carry out regular walkabouts, attend community meetings and set up surgeries within Greenhill, listening to public opinion on community matters and taking initiatives forward.
I do not want praise, I just want to help. I feel I am an effective and hard working member of the community, and any achievements that can be credited to me are for the people of Greenhill to judge.’
