Barry McFarland has lived in Kidderminster for over thirty years.
I am married to Irene and together we have four daughters and four grandchildren.
I am a Roman Catholic and strive to play an active part in my Parish of St Ambrose.
Having spent three years in research I became a college lecturer. Prior to retirement I spent four years as a national operations manager responsible for education and training in a company owned by Community Union (formerly The Carpet Workers’ Union)
I am a socialist and a firm believer in the trade union movement having held many lay positions in the lecturers’ union.
I am currently a Parish Councillor in Cookley and have previously served as a District Councillor. I have always been involved community activities and organisations.
My ambitions for our area include:
Restoring true democracy to our District Council
Ensuring that residents are always kept informed
Providing much needed affordable housing in our area
Sensitive and effective support for our elderly
Adopting a green strategy for all new build in our area
Working towards increased strategies to improve energy usage and insulation in existing homes
Ensuring high quality, durable repairs to our roads and pavements
Restoring the District Council to debt free status
Making Kidderminster a great place to live and a town to be proud of
Introducing and supporting more robust initiatives to bring sustainable jobs to our
Area
Ensuring full developments of sites such as British Sugar and Lea Castle
Ensure adequate training/apprenticeships for our young people
Working towards an affordable, integrated public transport system.
Having always worked in a people centred environment, being involved in many and varied community projects, managing a multi-agency approach and having senior management experience I can bring understanding, experience and commitment to the District Council.
